La Geria · est. 1896

Bodega La Geria

Built at the roadside on Lanzarote's LZ-30 in 1896, the eponymous estate sits at the heart of the wine region that shares its name — the stretch of black lapilli running from Uga to Masdache where every vine grows in a hand-dug crater walled by basalt.

The Rijo family raised the original bodega in the late nineteenth century; the Melián family took it over in 1993 and rebuilt the cellar around stainless-steel fermentation while keeping the old walls intact. Production runs to roughly 300,000 bottles a year under two labels, La Geria and Manto, drawing on Malvasía Volcánica, Listán Negro, Moscatel de Alejandría, and Diego. The tasting terrace looks west across the zocos toward the cones of Timanfaya — the view, more than the building, is the property's signature.
