15 bodegas grow Listán Negro
Listán Negro
Listán Negro is the canonical red grape of the Canary Islands and the only Lanzarote red planted by every bodega in the island's DO. Like Malvasía Volcánica, the vines are ungrafted — Phylloxera never reached the archipelago — and work the same lapilli geology, often interplanted with white varietals. The wines tend toward medium body, sharp acidity, and notes of black cherry and volcanic minerality; the same grape underpins the light rosado de lágrima style, the freshly-pressed first-run juice that gives the rosé its name. Listán Negro is also the foundation of several ageworthy blends and co-fermentations across La Geria, Tinajo and Masdache.
